We made a change in the boys’ room this week. Milo now has his own big boy bed. Doesn’t he look quite pleased with himself? He’s been enamored lately with Levi’s bed and is excited to have his own.

We decided to move him into his own bed now (at 23 months old) for a couple of reasons. First, he is, like his brother, somewhat gigantic for his age. The round crib we’ve used for both boys is darling but its diameter is not as long as the long side of a regular crib. This means that most of the time one of Milo’s limbs is sticking out from in between the slats, awkwardly. The second reason is that he hasn’t tried to climb out of the crib yet and I want to avoid that scenario. We moved Levi to a bed at around the same age but only after he heaved himself over the crib rails and landed on the floor with a sickening thud.

We have not been able to find a safety rail that will work with the platform beds we got at IKEA this summer so right now there is another twin mattress on the floor next to his bed just in case he rolls himself off the edge in the night.  This is a likely occurence since both boys are quite the movers-and-shakers in their sleep (just like me).  The room is a bit more crowded compared to these pictures since the crib is also still in the room.
